Letter from Adeline Vaughan Williams to Mary Fletcher
Letter No.: VWL567
Friday [?18th July] 1924
Dear Mary1
I can’t say 1 hundredth part of how pleased we are to be here. It is a valor perfection house Ralph says. He went about saying “I shall write here” only to discover another place & to say again “I shall write here” & he is writing.
We do love the garden following the lines of the lane – & the hedgerow trees & the house from every aspect.
Mrs Miles is most forbearing & kind
We lack nothing but sun –
Yr grateful
AMVW.
1. Sister of Dorothy Longman who had lent the VWs her house at Oare in Wiltshire. It was here that VW composed Flos Campi (see VWL571).
