Dear Dent
I’m sorry about your young man Glock1 – but I imagine he was hardly the kind of candidate the ctee had in view – meanwhile what about the Butterworth Trust? Of course it wd only be quite a small sum, if he got it, but it wd help. The trust has a meeting on Oct 29th – could you send me an account of Glock & I will send it or take it, if I can go, to the meeting.
There may of course be a feeling, which I to a certain extent share, against sending money abroad at this moment2 – but personally I think this is a justifiable case.
Could I know by the way, if and when I shall be wanted to examine at Cambridge again this year.3
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams
1. William Glock had been Organ Scholar at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, and was now studying the piano in Berlin under Artur Schnabel. See VWL964.
2. Possibly a reference to the economic Depression.
3. See VWL962. VW was to be an external examiner in Harmony.
