1.  Foss was preparing his book on VW, Ralph Vaughan Williams: a study, Harrap, London, 1950, which included a piece by VW, ‘A musical autobiography’, later reprinted with slight revisions in VW’s Some thoughts on Beethoven’s Choral Symphony with writings on other musical subjects (London, Oxford University Press, 1953) and again in National music and other essays (2nd ed., Oxford, 1987).
