2.  VW ‘s talk on Charles Villiers Stanford was broadcast on 30 September on the ‘London Calling’ in the BBC’s General Overseas Service and again on 3 and 4 October.  For the text of the talk see VWL2475.
3.  VW took pains to make sure the title “Sir” was not misapplied to him; though offered honorific titles and awards on various occasions, he consistently refused them with the exception of the Order of Merit.
