Dear Foss
I have received a letter from Dennis Van Thal1 suggesting he should act as my agent in film music & asks for an interview.
I have been and am perfectly happy with you as my ‘agent’ in these matters and am very grateful for all you have done & am perfectly content to let things remain as they are. So unless you think it a good plan I will not go on to negotiations with him.
Or wd it be a good plan for you to represent me with him, or at all events be present at our interviews.
I will not answer him till I hear from you & get your advice.
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams
P.S. I am waiting to acknowledge the cheque for 49th //l till I hear from you I can acknowledge it as a final settlement.
P.S. I always meant to go for Tovey about his dictum that great masters never have to get out of holes because they never get into them. The great masters are always getting into holes – it is the Saint Saens & Goldmarks & Stanfords who keep out of holes.
