Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Laura Vaughan Williams
Letter No. VWL251
Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Laura Vaughan Williams
Letter No.: VWL251
[July 1897]
Dear Aunt Laura1
I think that important steps taken by even the most insignificant members of a family should be communicated to the other branches of that family.
I am therefore writing to tell you that Adeline Fisher and myself have agreed to marry. I suppose it would be customary in a letter like this to refer to my good fortune in acheiving2 so much good, and how little worthy of it and her I am but this is too obvious, so I will say nothing about it.
I will only ask you and Uncle Roland to wish me as well as I hope you will
Yours very sincerely
Ralph Vaughan Williams
1. The wife of VW’s uncle, Sir Roland Vaughan Williams, a Lord Justice of Appeal.
