Dear Dent

We find after all that it will be impossible for us to come to Cambridge at present. Nevertheless we are both very grateful to you for having offered us your house and made it all so easy for us – It wd have been perfect for us if only we could have used it. We are just off to the “flute”1  with memories of Cambridge thick on us – I wish I cd hope for half such a fine performance as that was.2
Yrs very sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams

1. i.e. Mozart’s The Magic Flute
2. Probably referring to the performance in 1911, the first English language production of the opera, which was translated by Dent.
