In going through my letters today I came upon a kind one from you last year which somehow escaped my answering. Please accept my apologies.
Mr Coates’ notes on my “London Symphony” were unauthorized &, to my view, misleading – I am much obliged to you for calling my attention to it.²

1. Henderson was possibly the American songwriter (1896-1970), but more probably the press theatre agent and promoter, whose papers are in the New York Public Library.
2. Actually Mrs Madelon Coates, wife of  the conductor Albert Coates, who at this time was musical director of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in America. He had conducted the first performance of the revised version of the London Symphony after the war in 1920. See further correspondence between Madelon Coates and Percy Scholes at VWL568.
