Dear Madam,
Many thanks for your scenario. It seems to me more suitable for miming to accompany a recitation or singing of the ballad. However I am sending it on to Mr Kennedy of the EFDS1 to see what he thinks.2

2. Douglas Kennedy wrote to UW on 19th October: “Your letter addressed to Dr. Vaughan Williams enclosing the scenario for a Ballet has been forwarded to me. Dr. Vaughan Williams and I have done things in concert before and we have had in mind for some little time the idea of producing a typical English Ballet. Whether the actual story of Clerk Saunders is suitable I am not sure but I should very much like an opportunity to discuss the idea with you”.
