December 29 [1929]
Dear Sir
In preparing my “Fantasia” I have made a few slight alterations which I am sending you herewith.
Also I am not quite sure about the final cadenza. Perhaps it has not enough technical display. Would you feel inclined to be so very kind as to help me with this?
Yours faithfully
R. Vaughan Williams
1. Fantasia on Sussex Folk Tunes for violoncello and orchestra, Catalogue of Works 1929/6, later withdrawn by the composer (though an arrangement for cello and piano was published after his death). Casals was the soloist in the first performance at the Queen’s Hall on 13th March 1930.
