Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Evelyn Sharp

Letter No.: VWL853

The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

April 8 [1930]

Dear Miss Sharp

I am returning the agreement signed.  I quite agree that we ought to have one.
I’m not surprised about Nigel Playfair – I rather doubt about Barry Jackson and as to Cambridge I should have to apply to them personally and not through anyone else – and at present I don’t feel inclined to do that.1
We would certainly be not half precious enough for the Festival theatre – I think on the whole the best thing to do would be to see if the O.U. Press would publish it – Then they would have an interest in pushing it –
Yours sincerely

R Vaughan Williams

1. Evelyn Sharp had, as VW had suggested, been approaching possible producers suggested by the Society of Authors who might put on The Poisoned Kiss: Sir Nigel Playfair (who had returned the score), Sir Barry Jackson at Birmingham Repertory Theatre and A.B. Horne at the Cambridge Festival Theatre.
