Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gilbert Murray

Letter No.: VWL1204

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Aug 16th [1937]

Dear Professor Murray

Thank you very much for your advice which has been most valuable to me.
I have decided to accept & have written a letter pointing out that in accepting I take it that (a) No political propaganda are implied (b) That it is merely a gesture of recognition from a learned body to the artists & scholars of England (c) That I shall feel honourably free after accepting to hold & express any views on the state of Germany which are at present allowable to me as a British Citizen.1
Yours sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams
