Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Douglas Lilburn
Letter No.: VWL1225
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
[18 September 1939]
Dear Lilburn
I am very sorry I shall not be teaching at the R.C.M.1 this term – it has been decided that only those who live in or quite near London are to come.2 But I should much like to look at your work occasionally – I shall probably be in London from time to time – or if you cared to come down here one day I should be pleased to see you
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams
P.S. It is up to you young people to keep the cultural side going so that we may not sink entirely to the level of animals.
1. Royal College of Music
2. Presumably because of the outbreak of war.
