Letter No.: VWL1226
From R. Vaughan Williams,

Westcott Road,
Dorking.
Dec 31 [1939]
Dear Foss
You will perhaps remember that at the request of H.J. Wood I arranged my “Serenade to Music” for orchestra alone. He now proposes to do it at Manchester on Feb 1st. What is our mutual function (me & OUP) with regard to it – with regard to copying band parts. I shd like to employ my own copyist.
Yrs sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams

General Notes:
The plans evidently changed. Wood conducted VW’s Serenade with most of the original 16 soloists in a charity concert in the Queen’s Hall on Thursday 8 February 1940, then the first performance of the orchestral version, for which the band parts mentioned here would be needed, also in the Queen’s Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 10 February 1940, the second concert being broadcast.
