Letter No.: VWL1388

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Oct 14 [1938]

My Dear

You were the only one of my girl-friends who wrote to me on my birthday. It was sweet of you.
I opened your Herrick & read
“We shall grow old apace and die
before we know our liberty”1.

I saw my poet friend2 & am sending him your poems to look at. Not the sonnet which I keep. But I think “Native wood notes wild”3 for you every time.
Yrs
