Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Miss Townsend
Letter No.: VWL1443
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
[About 18th November 1938]
Dear Miss Townsend
This is most kind of you.
I will have all your repertoire please as I shd like you to play twice – say 7 or 8 minutes each time.
As regards rehearsals it is difficult to fix up as Mrs Collings the pianist does not return to Dorking till Monday. I suggest Tuesday for the rehearsal – shall we provisionally say 11.0 on Tuesday at Mrs Collings house 27 Vincent Road (tel ) & I will wire you to confirm or alter.
About getting to Dorking & back on Wednesday a bus leaves Holmwood (Holly & Laurel) at 7.4 & gets to White Horse 7.24. Return bus leaves 9.8 ar 9.35.
The Toc H club is in High Street over the “Golden Milkbar” almost opposite Smith’s Book Shop (under an archway & up some steps) – you turn back & cross the street when you leave the bus.
Yours sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
