Dec 31 [1940]

My Dear

As regards stockings – failing silk I advise the ribbed kind – I noticed a young woman sitting down the other day and the ribbed effect very pleasantly accentuated the curve of the knee – But of course a transparent silk if you can be sure of no wrinkles is the thing.
I am so sorry about your cold – I know how miserable it makes me – also about your uncertain plans – on the other hand the BBC is good – I believe I have read Tam Lyn1 – but I will read it again – I’ve got so many books of yours here – I must return them.
This is a short letter – but I thought it important to discuss the stocking problem at once.
All my love for the New Year
RVW

P.S. I don’t know about ribbed stockings, to the touch – I’ve never had an opportunity of testing
