Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Harry Blech
Letter No.: VWL1677
The White Gates,
Dorking.
July 28 [1942?]
Dear Mr Blech
I will do what I can – but – when? I think Mr Pleeth1 had better make a formal application to the proper quarters & then we could all write backing up his case.
I should think his strongest card was the B.B.C.
Yours sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
1. William Pleeth the cellist. He had been the cellist of the Blech String Quartet 1936-41. There is no certainty that this letter dates from 1942 but was found in UVW’s 1942 file.
