Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi

Letter No.: VWL1735

[4th December 1942 ]

Dear Gerald

I am thoroughly ashamed of myself. I was waiting to thank you for the music till I had been able to go through it again.1 – But I haven’t had time (Gustav used to say that really busy people never say they haven’t time, so I can’t be really busy).
– The truth is that I am ‘with Film’ (as E. N.2 wd say) once more – the gestation period of a film composer seems more like a cat than a human.
