Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to the Rev. Leonard Starey

Letter No. VWL1880

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to the Rev. Leonard Starey

Letter No.: VWL1880

The White Gates,
Dorking.

[c.15th March 1945]

My Dear Vicar1

Thank you very much for your letter.2
I breathe a sigh of relief when these occasions are over – when I think of all the enthusiasm & devotion to music of the 300 people – & that by a single act of carelessness I might bring it all to disaster it is rather overwhelming.
Yours sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams

2.  According to a letter to UVW from the recipient, this followed a performance of the St Matthew Passion in Dorking Parish Church about 1945 (in which year it took place on 11th March).
