Dearest Imogen
How dear of you to remember my birthday. I hear you were in London lately – perhaps we cd have met – do tell me next time.1
I heard the viola piece & B. Shore seemed to make it live – I did not get hold of it at all 1st time.2
Also I am beginning to see my way through Egdon Heath – so there is hope for me yet.3
All our love from both to you
Uncle Ralph
1. Imogen Holst was now based at Dartington.
2. Lyric Movement for viola and orchestra, H.191. The piece had been played by Bernard Shore in a radio concert on 26th April marking the tenth anniversary of Gustav Holst’s death and again, possibly, in a concert on 4 October to mark the 70th anniversary of his birth.
3. In VWL630 VW had said to Gustav Holst ‘I’ve come to the conclusion that E.H. is beautiful – bless you therefore’.
