Dearest Imogen

How dear of you to remember my birthday.  I hear you were in London lately – perhaps we c^d have met – do tell me next time.¹  
I heard the viola piece & B. Shore seemed to make it live – I did not get hold of it at all 1^st time.²
Also I am beginning to see my way through Egdon Heath – so there is hope for me yet.³

1. Imogen Holst was now based at Dartington.
2. Lyric Movement for viola and orchestra, H.191. The piece had been played by Bernard Shore in a radio concert on 26th April marking the tenth anniversary of Gustav Holst’s death and again, possibly, in a concert on 4 October to mark the 70th anniversary of his birth.
3. In VWL630 VW had said to Gustav Holst ‘I’ve come to the conclusion that E.H. is beautiful – bless you therefore’.
