I should love to hear the record of your Symphony.
I think perhaps it is a little too hectic all the way through.  One wants some point of rest, but we will talk about that more when you come.
I think your suggestion for the new opening of the slow movement is good.
Good luck to your Sixth Quartet and bring it along when it is finished.
