I am so glad you were able to come – I appreciate your praise very much. It wd be false modesty if I did not think the chorus really deserved it.1

1. The letter refers to one of the concerts in the Leith Hill Musical Festival at Dorking, possibly on April 18, at which VW’s English version of parts of Bach’s B minor Mass was given its first performance. Müller Hartmann had helped with preparing the score and one might have expected a reference to that in the letter.
