Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi
Letter No.: VWL2300
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
25th June, 1947.
Dear Gerald,
The Composers’ Guild is a branch of the Authors’ Society. I think it a useful institution and do not quite see your point about philosophers and poets. They, in so far as they publish philosophy and poetry, want a Trade Union just as much as authors and composers – but I would much rather you gave your 30/- to the Lapps.1
I am trying to find Jelly’s2 address, but have not succeeded yet. However, I will send it off as soon as I can.
My love to Joyce –
Yrs
Uncle Ralph
P.S. I have found Jelly’s address & sent it on –
24 Basil Court
Basil Street
SW3
When in doubt I always write c/o Ibbs & Tillet.
1. This reference is not clear.
2. Jelly d’Aranyi. See VWL1909.
