Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Katharine Thomson
Letter No.: VWL2301
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
25th June, 1947.
Dear Mrs. Thomson,
Thank you for your letter. The trouble about doing Interlude from ‘Sir John’ is that in the ‘new act acting edition’, the end has been cut out and it The Interlude has become Act 3, Scene 1 leading straight on to the ‘duel’ scene, which is now Act 3, Scene 2. Could you do both the whole of Act III? Otherwise, I suggest ending at the end of the big chorus where marked in the score. The difficulty about doing it as originally printed is that it will not now agree with the revised band parts.
Yours sincerely,
R. Vaughan Williams
