1.  Howells wrote a birthday tribute to VW on page 5 of the Radio Times edition for 12 October (a generous half page, as well as a photograph of VW on the cover). The headline was: “He has touched the hearts of millions.” The article concluded “In the giving of thanks we are a shy people. But he knows that.”
