From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
Oct 17 [1952]
Dear Eugene Goossens
Please thank your choir & orchestra & take a large slice of thanks for yourself for your message of good will – I wish I could have heard what I am sure was a very fine performance.
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams

General Notes:
A note on the original suggests 1954 or 1955 as the year of this letter and the ‘Arctic Symphony’ as the work in question – but, because of the address, it cannot be later than 1952 (the VWs moved to Hanover Terrace in September 1953). The performance was probably connected with VW’s 80th birthday celebrations in 1952.
