THE LETTERS OF RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Guthrie Foote (OUP)

Letter No. VWL2506

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Guthrie Foote (OUP)

Letter No.: VWL2506

The White Gates,
Dorking,

18th December, 1947.

Dear Mr. Foote,

Pianoforte Concerto.

The two versions must correspond and I think we had better take the two-pianoforte version as being authentic.1
Yours sincerely,

[R Vaughan Williams]2

G. Foote, Esq.,
Oxford University Press,
38a Soho Square,
London, W.1.

1.  Foote had written reporting a discrepancy between the placing of the ‘loco’ chord which comes three bars before the end in the two-piano version but only two in VW’s manuscript correction slips [for the one-piano version]. Were each of these correct for their respective versions?
2. The signature appears to have been cut out of this letter.
