THE LETTERS OF RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi

Letter No.: VWL2623

The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.

28th January, 1953.

Dear Gerald

Thank you so much for your letter.
I thought at one time of going to Oxford, but I am glad now I did not, because orchestral music on the stage of a theatre always goes dead, and I do feel the organ is essential. Also the ladies’ choir I understand were rather too “Oxfordy” for John Barbirolli, and he told them so.1
My love to Joyce
