Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Alan Frank (OUP)

Letter No.: VWL2769

The White Gates,
Dorking,

17th June, 1948.

Dear Frank,

I was given a record of my Oboe Concerto as played by Mr. Miller in America.  I was polite about it but personally I thought it made a horrible noise rather like cats on the roof; but anyway I do not like records, so I am not a fair judge.1
Perhaps I ought to have told you about this, but as Decca are taking it over I thought they would have told you.
Yours sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams

1.  The first recording of the Oboe Concerto, Catalogue of Works 1944/1, was made by Keynote in America with Mitchell Miller as the soloist.
