February 22nd [1954]

Dear Alan,

Ralph asks me to say that he would be very grateful if you will get him a set of Child, through the Press, & offset against American Royalties.1
We look forward to seeing you on Monday 4.30 – as we are going to the dress rehearsal – would you like to pick us up at the Arts? We shall be there all the afternoon I suppose – otherwise at the Garden House Hotel.2
Yrs

Ursula

1. English and Scottish popular ballads, collected by the American Francis James Child, first published in parts 1882-1898. This is still the definitive collection of the texts. This request is probably an indication of the beginnings of work on Thomas the Rhymer.
2. The VWs were in Cambridge for Dennis Arundel’s production of The Pilgrim’s Progress.
