James McKay Martin, a former student of VW at the Royal College of Music, participant in the Leith Hill Musical Festival and a close friend of Hubert Foss, with whom VW subsequently corresponded about the latter’s ill health. His Benedicite was published by A & C Black in 1949. See his article ‘Recollections of R.V.W.’, Musical Opinion, July 1984, pp.303-305.
