Dear Mrs Hurley,1

Indeed your letter is very well expressed and it has given me great pleasure to think that I have made some new friends. I am glad you like my practical directions – I have known a performance in the old days of the Bach Choir, come to grief because a conductor had neglected to tell the chorus when to stand up!

Please give my love to your daughter I wonder which bit of Hodie it is she sings?

With all good wishes for the new year,

1. Joan Mason Hurley was President of the Victoria Choral Society, which gave the first performance of Hodie in Canada.
