Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to James McKay Martin
Letter No.: VWL3231
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London N.W.1.
December 17th 1955.
Dear Martin,
I fear I am very bad on dates. The oboe concerto was written for Leon Goossens, and was to have been performed at the series of Proms,1 which were cancelled owing to the war. The tuba concerto is dedicated to the L.S.O.2 and was first performed at one of their jubilee concerts in 1954 (?) and played by Philip Catalinet.
Yrs
