Letter from Ursula and Ralph Vaughan Williams to Michael and Eslyn Kennedy
Letter No.: VWL3304
Villa Cristabella (Not Drina – the postman understands)
[15 April 1958]
We had a bumpy flight, saw a very bad opera – a new one – in the ravishing opera house at Naples, and went to Herculaneum. This is a lovely house, terraces, hills covered with broom in flower, cyclamen & grape hyacinths – but very cold, & little sunshine – however we are going to enjoy all, we keep warm with wine, wood fires & jerseys in bed! Ralph seems very well again
The opera we saw said to be founded on Sardinian folk songs. If that is so God help the Sardines!1
