Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Alan Frank (OUP)
Letter No.: VWL3317
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
April 1st 1956.
Dear Frank,
I think I have got the notes right now. Roy need not be so modest, he knows this symphony better than I do, and I have been more careless than Dr. Johnson. I return the ammended1 notes.2
We are going to Cheltenham for the first night of PK.3 Wednesday 25th.

2. VW had written a programme note on the Eighth Symphony (final text printed by Michael Kennedy in Catalogue of Works 1955/3) and Roy Douglas had sent some comments on the draft to Frank, Frank sent them on to VW, saying that most of the points were small except that, in the last movement, Douglas separated VW’s first episode into two episodes making four in all. VW largely accepted Douglas’s emendations.
3. Frank had also asked if and when VW would be attending the Cheltenham performance of The Poisoned Kiss (Catalogue of Works 1936/4).
