Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Rutland Boughton

Letter No.: VWL3419

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

January 15th 1958.

Dear Rutland

I was so pleased to get your wonderful letter.  I am ashamed to say I don’t know my Dante – or my Virgil well enough to be able to illustrate them in music, but it pleases me much that in your opinion I have built better than I know.
I am sending you the photograph – I think it is good of me, and certainly gets much nearer the real Ursula than any other photograph I have seen.
I believe it is your birthday very soon, so please take these birthday greetings as applying to the exact day.
I have discovered, as I expect you have, that as one gets older one seems to get younger.
Love from both of us to Kathleen and yourself.
Yrs

Ralph
