Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Sir Alexander Kaye Butterworth
Letter No.: VWL3811
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
July 22 [1937]
Dear Sir Alexander
I am so sorry to trouble you again but could you tell me – supposing the Butterworth Trust does exercize its’ option and in 1941 or later hands over its funds to the R.C.M.1 – would it leave the disposition of the money to the absolute discretion of the R.C. authorities or tie it up in some way so that the original purposes of the fund should still be carried out, but by a different body?
I, myself should not care, I think, for any funds over which I had control merely to swell the general scholarship funds of the R.C.M.2
Yours sincerely
R Vaughan Williams
