My Dear Peggy
Almost at the same time I had letters from you and Stanley¹ – They give very conflicting accounts of your two lives. I am was much distressed at the idea of your parting – but perhaps it is only temporary & it will be really believe be² good for Stanley to fend for himself for a bit. And as to you, dear Peggy, if it enables you to compose again that is good.
By the way I had nothing to do with the Promotion of New Music choosing your work – I sent it to them – but as president I make it a rule never to recommend a work to the c^tee  – Any way I fear it is not much of a show – just a private “try over”.
Don’t wear yourself to fiddle strings – that is not the way to get the best out of life I feel sure.
