Dear Burnard
I’m fearfully sorry about all this
(1) I had no idea your piece was a degree excercize¹
(2) I gathered from your letter that you were sending your scores direct to me – so I waited to reply til they came – & they never did!
Now I am going to U.S.A up till Xmas – so I fear your score will have to wait again till I come back.
I will do my best for it – but it is fairly hopeless getting things done here – even people  who are already a little known like Patrick Hadley & Elizabeth Maconchy cannot get a look in – while quite incompetent & unknown foreigners romp around.
If you could get promises of a few performances in Australia that w^d be far the most cogent argument for a publisher.
– But no one will take full scores now & so the arrangement is the best you can hope for. I should certainly make a pfte transcription straight away.
