1. VW was in charge of local fire-watching during the war. The Piper family lived at the School House, North Holmwood, Dorking.  This is one of several letters concerning firefighting arrangements sent to the Pipers. The letters were sent to Dr William Cole in 1977 by Lilian Piper, in case they were of interest, and are now at Surrey History Centre.
