Letter from Adeline Vaughan Williams to Martin Shaw

Letter No.: VWL4314

Margate

Monday [17 August, 1914]

Dear Mr Shaw
I liked having your letter so much.  It’s one of the best parts of friendship if you can tell us of your anxieties.
We were in London last week & Ralph is there again today & probably I rejoin him tomorrow.  Won’t you therefore come to tea or supper on Thursday & then we can talk – & incidentally answer if possible yr question about nursery rhymes.
Do let us be of use if we can – we will see you through the Dearmer crisis!  I can’t believe that the D’s will be so shortsighted as to not losing you.  Is the war going to kill German music in England?
Steuart Wilson has turned soldier so the hymns must wait for happier times.1
I hope we shall see you.
yours very sincerely
Adeline VW
Forgive this pencil scrawl.
