Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Martin Shaw
Letter No.: VWL4319
10 Madingley Road
Cambridge
[May, 1919]
Dear Martin
I simply cannot think of a tune for those words – so you musn’t count on me. My mind simply won’t work in that direction – I didn’t know you wanted it so soon!
If I do happen to think of something in the next 2 days I will send it on the chance but I think it most unlikely.
Thank you so much for all the songs which I’ve been reading through, but have not played yet.
So sorry to hear you have been ill
