From R. Vaughan Williams,

Westcott Road,
Dorking.

July 28 [1931?]

Dear Martin
I’ve at last been through the music you so kindly sent me a long time ago – I wish I cd have heard it.
“Sing we merrily” is splendid.1
“The Lord hear thee” do2 – but I don’t like the beginning as much – but when it once gets going O.K.  I’m not so keen on the chants – I don’t know why we can never make peace exactly.  I know by experience
