Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Sir Gerald Kelly

Letter No.: VWL4567

The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey

27th November, 1952.

Dear Kelly

I should like you to settle entirely what you like about the chair. I will come and see it if you want me to next time I am in London, or Mrs. Wood would come to represent me and I should entirely trust her judgment; but as a matter of fact I entirely trust yours and so I think there is no necessity for me to come, though of course it would be a pleasure to see you again.
Please give my kind regards to Lady Kelly and Miss Mansel.
Yrs
R Vaughan Williams

(R. Vaughan Williams).

Sir Gerald Kelly, P.R.A.,
117 Gloucester Place,
Portman Sq., W.1.

1. Kelly was painting VW’s portrait for the Royal College of Music; he had sat for the portrait in June and it was eventually exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1953.
