Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Maud Karpeles
Letter No.: VWL4792
[1925?]
Dear Maud
I think £2-2-0 pre arrangement is quite enough.
On the other hand I shd have thought it wd be worthwhile to have the lot – as 2 different settings are worth having – but this is as you like
Also we ought to pay him something for use of the tunes on the scale – if we do not buy them
Now another point.
You remember the F.S. Society1 were going to ask you for a selection of the Appallachian [sic] tunes for the next Journal – but I told them at the last Ctee that you were proposing to print these yourself, in a scientific manner.
So now they want to know if they may depute me to select about 50 songs from the English Collection – such as have not as yet been in print – Cd you see your way to this?
As you know the Journal is not published & the copyright of course remains intact & is so stated in the Journal
Yrs
R.V.W.
I return yr letter to E.[?] W. in case you want to revise it
