Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Maud Karpeles

Letter No.: VWL4863

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Reading.

Monday [2 November 1935]

Dear Maud
I have been thinking about last Tuesday, and one thing has become clear to me.
Either you or Douglas must be director1
Are you prepared to take it on & accept Douglas’ proposed resignation? If not I suggest that we both retire from the BAC2 – This should be done without any ill feeling & with an assurance that we are still there to help and be consulted if wanted.
The Ctee cd then decide whether to scrap the BAC or elect new members.
That done, I shall propose that a “F.D. circle”3 be established within the Society of those primarily interested in it as an art of which you should be director and where any one approved of by you should be taught F.D. by you and any one approved by you
Yrs
