2, February, 1952

Dear Grainger
A log time ago you sent me the score of your Hillsong no.2. I was very much occupied at that time and put it on one side, and later when I took it out I simply could not read the score. I am a notoriously bad score reader and so I copied it out roughly on the two staves and managed, I think, to get hold of it.
I think it ought to sound extremely well and I wish we could hear it in England. The difficulty of course will be that the conductors will not do things that involve anything but the conventional orchestra.
Are you going to be in England this year? If you will both come down and see me it would be a pleasure.
