Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ralph Hawkes
Letter No.: VWL5234
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
Feb 13 [1932?]
Dear Mr Hawkes
Last year you kindly lent the Leith Hill Musical Festival a “Hammond” organ for our performance of Bach’s ‘St Matthew’ Passion in Dorking Halls.
I was much pleased with the result of our experiment, and hope to repeat it.
There is no room in our hall for a pipe organ and this solves our difficulties in an unexpected & successful manner.
Yours sincerely
Ralph Vaughan Williams
