Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to John Buckland
Letter No.: VWL5019
From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
November 10th 1952.
Dear Buckland,
I listened in to Pieta last night and liked it. It seems to me that you have acquired more power of saying what you want to say.1
I do not quite understand what you are doing about Morris dancing, but I gather you have not quite given it up.
Yrs
R Vaughan Williams
1. Buckland’s Pieta, for strings, Op.1 No.1, was played by the Harvey Phillips String Orchestra as part of a concert beginning at 7.50 pm on the Third Programme.
